Driving in Sweden
It is safer to drive in Sweden than in most other countries. International surveys have shown that Sweden has a comparatively low traffic accident rate. The Swedish Road Administration (SRA) works in collaboration with many other organisations to make it even safer to travel on the Swedish road network.
A key prerequisite for safe traffic is that all vehicle drivers follow the rules of the road. Further information on Swedish traffic regulations and road signs can be found under the headings in the column to the left.
Always remember to keep the following in mind:
Alcohol and driving do not mix!
Everyone in the vehicle must wear a seat belt.
All vehicles must drive with at least the dipped headlights switched on, even in daytime.
Sweden is a densely-forested country where wildlife accidents are all too common. Please take the wildlife warning signs seriously!
